Henry Anglemire was born in Pennsylvania and then moved with his father and siblings to Illinois about 1857.

Eventually, the family settled near Plainfield, Will, Illinois.

When the Civil War erupted, Henry enlisted with his uncle, Joel Musselman (who was just two years older than Henry) in Co. M, 2nd Illinois Cavalry. They joined 03 Dec 1861 in Havana, Mason, Illinois and were mustered in on 30 Dec 1861 in Cairo, Illinois.

On 09 Jan 1865, Henry mustered out of the 2nd Illinois Cavalry as 1st Sergeant.
