A first son was born in November of 1841 at Morristown. The young family came to Fond du Lac County, in Wisconsin Territory in 1847. According to the 1850 census, James and Cornelia were farming in Byron township and their son, James Oscar was 8 years old. A second son, Augustus was born in 1851.
James, the first son served in the Civil War. Both sons entered the medical field. James Oscar, a doctor, practiced at Mayville in Dodge County and Augustus established his practice as a Dentist at Blue Earth, Minn.
James' farm prospered through the 1870's and he retired to Beaver Dam by 1880. James died at Fond du Lac in 1899 and Cornelia in 1902.
