Cornelia is the daughter of William Conover & Phoebe (Hall) Van Brunt; her parents were both born in Union County, New Jersey. Cornelia was born 1816 at Morristown, St Lawrence County, in New York state, where she later met James C. Ackerman of Herkimer County, New York. They were married at Morristown on February 16,1841.
A son was born in November of 1841 at Morristown. In 1847 The family came to Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin Territory and settled on a farm in Byron township. A second son, Augustus was born in 1851.
James retired from the farm at Byron by 1880. Cornelia died in 1902, preceeded by her husband in 1899.
