Mother of 3 children. Beloved wife of Chester Boerum. (Original memorial as entered by Linda)

This memorial to Shirley was originally entered by her loving daughter Linda. Linda has sadly passed away and I am attempting to expand and share the history of this amazing woman. My aunt, Shirley Boerum was taken from us in a horrible way, but that's not how she will be remembered. I'll tell you at the very end of her memorial about that horrible day, but first read about this lovely worman.

Shirley was kind. Unbelievably kind. She loved her three children and would do anything for them. She was generous to her nieces and nephews, she was kind to her Sunday school class, she gave her heart to many causes and all of her neighbors. Anyone who met Shirley came away feeling good about themselves. She often fed her kids treats for breakfast because - why not? She was an amazing baker and cook. She kept her home and kids warm and spotless. She was intelligent and well versed on anything in the news. She worked as a bookkeeper but always made sure to be home for her kids when they needed her. She was an amazing wife, mom, sister, daughter, sister-in-law, and aunt. Her childhood was not a happy one, but she never complained or told anyone much about it.

January 3, 1968 was a cold snowy day. Shirley got her children off to school and kissed her husband as he left for work. When it was time to leave for work she locked her front door and slowly walked to her car. Her neighbor picked up his high powered rifle, pointed at Shirley and shot her in her back. He had separated from his wife and believed Shirley knew where his wife was. He then took the rifle and killed himself. As with most cowards, he had to destroy something beautiful.
