Mr. Tilton married, in 1866, Sarah Taylor, who was born in Illinois, a daughter of Mr. John M. and Mrs. Julia Ann (Milligan) Taylor, both of whom passed the later years of their lives in Jasper county, Missouri. Eight children have been born into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tilton, namely : Luraina, Meleva, Julia, Clinton, Mattie, Lennie, Thomas (of Lorena, Oklahoma) and Harriet. She was the daughter of and John Taylor.

MRS. SARAH E. TILTON DIES NEAR CARTHAGE

Resident of Jasper County 77 Years Succumbs at Daughter's Home -Charter Member of Church


CARTHAGE, MO., June 3 - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Tilton, 97 years old, a resident of the Carthage district 77 years, died at 1:15 o'clock this morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Harriett M. Holdeman of route 4.
She was born April 18, 1847 in Taylorville, IL., and was married July 29, 1866 in Springfield, IL., to Josiah Tilton, who died March 25, 1930. She was a charter member of the Center Point Christian Church.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Mattie E. Schlager of Canton, MO., route 3; Mrs. Lennie Moyer and Mrs. Meleva Largent of Carthage; Mrs. Julia A. Lockhart of Azuss, Calif.; and Mrs. Lurna Burnett of Sulphur Springs, Ark.; two sons: Clinton W. Tilton of Death Valley, Calif.; and Thomas M. Tilton of Carthage route 1 and a brother, Elisa E. Taylor of Lamar.
The body was removed to the Ulmer Funeral Home.
