AL DANO DIES; SUFFERED STROKE 2 WEEKS AGO
Passed Away at Hospital In Carroll Last Thursday Morning
Lived Here 58 Years

Al Dano, who had been a patient in the St. Anthony hospital at Carroll for two weeks following a stroke which he suffered on April 7th, passed away last Thursday at 2:05 o'clock p.m. He was well-known in this community, owing to his long residence here and the fact that he had served as mail-carrier between the post office and the local Northwestern depot for almost ten years.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Temple Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church with the Rev. A.B. Gedye officiating.

The hymns, "In The Garden", "Dies Jesus Care?" and "Nearer, My God to Thee", were sung by a quartette comprising Mrs. Harold Bradley, Miss Cecile Hale, E.A. Swanson and A.B. Canady. Miss LaGene Phillips was the pianist.

Those serving as pallbearers were Roy Ferguson, George Auen, Gus Anderson, Martin Schoneboom, Benn Freese and Al Eaton.

Interment was in the Ferguson cemetery.

Those attending the last rites from a distance were: Russell Dano, of Watertown, S.D.; Charles Barnhill and wife, Floyd Heath, wife and son, Herschel; Harry Barnhill and wife, and Delmar Barnhill and family, all of Sac City; John Heath and wife of Storm Lake, Marjorie Figi, of Storm Lake, Norman Heath of Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Uren of Newell.

Alphono Robinson Dano, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Robinson, was born at Alexandria, Jefferson county, N.Y., on Nov. 25, 1858, and at the time of his death, which occurred April 21, 1938, at St. Anthony's hospital in Carroll, Iowa, was 79 years, 4 months and 27 days of age. His death came as a result of physical disabilities and over-exertion which brought on a stroke the morning of April 7th.

In 1861, when the decedent was 2 years of age, his father died, and his mother married again a year later, her second husband being Joseph P. Dano. The two children - Alphonso and William - thereupon assumed the surname of Dano. In 1875 the family moved from New York state to DeKalb, Ill., where they engaged in farming. In 1880, the family purchased a farm northeast of Lake View, Iowa, remaining there until 1888, when they moved to Lake View.

Mr. Dano was married to Miss Julia Geddes on May 30, 1887, at Lake View. For some years following their marriage, they lived on farms in the Lake View and Grant City vicinity, then moved to Laurens, Iowa, and later to Brandt, S.D., where Mrs. Dano passed away on Oct. 21, 1914. The Danos reared two children, Russell T. Dano of Watertown, S.D., and Lois, wife of Walter Bloom, of Little Falls, Minn., both of whom survive.

In 1916, Mr. Dano went to Fort Ripley, Minn., residing there about five years, and since returning to Lake View in 1921, made his home here up to the time of his death, looking after his widowed mother until her passing on Jan. 2, 1933. His brother, William, passed away in Chicago in 1927, and a half-sister, Mrs. Maggie Heath, died in 1908. His stepfather died in 1905.

Besides his son and daughter, he is survived by nine grandchildren and other more distant relatives. His familiar figure and friendly smile will be missed in his community.

He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and a regular attendant at church and Sunday School and held the respect of the church and the people among whom he lived.
