Although Waylon W. Baker was born in Berlin, Oklahoma on December 19, 1917, he grew up in Aransas Pass, Texas. His father was a well driller and plumber. Waylon was the first child in his family of five children. His mother Edna Hattie Booker (1899 Arkansas—1970 Houston, Texas) left the family and remarried when Waylon was ten. His father was Marvin Wayland Baker (1893 Hale, Texas—1953 Aransas Pass, Texas). Wayland finished primary school. in Aransas Pass. In 1940, he lived with an aunt in Aransas Pass and managed a pool room. His other two brothers worked as assistant drillers for his father. His brother Troy died at age 19 of a brain tumor. In 1946, Waylon married Fannie Louise McKie in Rockport, Texas. They lived in Morgan’s Point at 3011 East Main and had a family. Wayland worked as a commercial fisherman. He died at age 54 of a heart attack on November 14, 1972 in Morgan’s Point, Texas, according to his death certificate.
