In 1899 John N Bartlett donated $20,000 to the town of Royalston, MA. With the proviso "that if at any time the Town should fail to comply with the requirements of said gift as stated (see p 236 of History of Royalston) then gift will be paid to my heirs." The monument at the right has his name at the bottom as he was the youngest child of Jonas and Hannah Bartlett, even tho he probably paid for the monument.
