Abraham Sam Kalil, 62, passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida on March 22, 2010, surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 15, 1947 in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late Sam and Nabiha Kalil.

He graduated from Valdosta High School in 1965, and went on to attend Valdosta State College.

After finishing college, he began his career with the Pantry Pride supermarket chain, where he quickly advanced to become a store manager. After his employment with Pantry Pride, he became a business entrepreneur and opened the Sultan Sandwich Shop in Jacksonville, Florida.

After successfully operating his sandwich shop for 12 years, he sold the business and joined Beaver Street Foods in Jacksonville, which was later acquired by Sysco Corporation. He was employed with Sysco as a sales representative until his retirement in 2008. In 1973, he married Margaret Rose Fawwal, his wife of 37 years.

He is survived by his loving wife Margie Kalil; son, Anthony Kalil; daughter, Christina Toney (Thomas Jr.); daughter, Melissa Farhat (Michael); sister, Laurice Ghannam (Adel); brother, Sam Kalil Jr. (Frieda); sister, Sue Rafidi; and brother John Kalil (Sheila). He had four granddaughters, who brought him some of the greatest joy in his later years: Leah Toney, Nicole Toney, Sophia Toney, and Kaley Farhat.

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a longtime member of numerous business, religious, and charitable organizations, including the St. George's Antiochian Orthodox Church and Ramallah Club of Jacksonville.

The family will receive friends and family for a viewing at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at St. George's Antiochian Orthodox Church, 6300 Bowden Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32216, followed by the Trisagion service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at St. George's Antiochian Orthodox Church, 6300 Bowden Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32216, and will be officiated by Fr. Kamal Al-Rahil. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery directly after the service.
