The only clue to the identity of this woman are the words on the headstone that state her daughters were Olivett and Tommie Lanier. On the 1880 Ouachita Parish census, they were living with A.F. and M.M. Parker and were listed as A.F.'s stepdaughters. Olivett was 16 and Tommie was 15. Olivett married Edward Ball December 9, 1880 in Ouachita Parish. She later married Sheriff D.A. Johnston.

Online genealogy forum postings lead to the conclusion that her name was Mary M. Dunn, who married B.T. Lanier in 1861, probably in Georgia. On the 1870 Cuthbert, Randolph Co. Georgia census shows Mary Ann Lanier, HOH, b. 1840 Ga; Children:
Olavet/Olivet Lanier, female, b. 1862 Ga and
Thomas Lanier, male [sic], b. 1864 Ga. [Tommie was known as "Birdie".]

In the 1950's when the DAR indexed Hasley cemetery, this grave was recorded as "Mrs. Lanier".

A findagrave user suggested her middle name was Margaret.
