Gene Bowers died July 6, 1980 in Bunnell, FL from a gun shot wound inflicted by his wife. He served in the Third Amphibious Corps, USMC, during WWII and his operations included Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam, Peleliu, Okinawa and Northern China.

He had one son(Howard) who died of Lieukemia as a junior in Bunnell High School.

He was a life Member of VFW Flagler County Post 5213 and DAV Chapter 86 in Flagler Beach.
