The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, March 31st from 5-8 p.m. EDT at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL (850-877-8191). The funeral will be held at the same location on Wednesday, April 1st at 11 a.m. EDT with interment following. Juanita is survived by her husband of 45 years, John Edward Thiel; two daughters, Sara Joellen Thiel of Colorado Springs, CO and Jodi Lynn Thiel of Prairie Village, KS; her sister, Lois Adderhold Graham (Wayne) of Atlanta, GA.; and her nephews, Paul Knox Graham of Atlanta, GA, and Philip Wesley Graham of Oakland, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Leonidas Adderhold, Jr. and Sara Georgia Wyatt Adderhold. Juanita was born in Auburn, AL on February 21, 1943 and attended high school in Chipley, FL. While a student at Florida State University she was introduced to John by her professor and his mother, Ellen Aikens Thiel. Juanita graduated from the College of Education in 1964 and married the same year. After spending several years at home raising her daughters and working in direct sales, Juanita returned to her passion: education. She served as teacher and Head Mistress at Woodland Hall Academy before dedicating 17 years to Holy Comforter Episcopal Day School. Juanita's trademark red hair was as vibrant as her personality. She pursued many interests including scuba diving, photography, genealogy, square and line dancing, gardening, playing the dulcimer, and building dollhouse furniture. Her love of the outdoors led to Holy Comforter's annual 5th grade class trip to the Smoky Mountains. Upon retirement, she and John enjoyed traveling in their RV and would spend several months each year in the Waynesville, NC area. Juanita's memberships included the Fort San Luis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Anna Jackson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Tallahassee Good Sam Club, Jonquil Circle of the Tallahassee Garden Club, Killearn United Methodist Church and the Pisgah Promenaders of Waynesville, N.C. In lieu of flowers, please direct contributions to Big Bend Hospice, Inc., 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
