"Ephraim arrived Greene in the spring of 1818 and bought what was called the wild plum lot in section thirty-four, joining Merritt, and settled on it. In 1820 elected fenceviewer and most likely was chosen for other positions in the years following. In 1830, Ephraim Kee with Ichabod Merritt built a sawmill on the Merritt brook, west of the south cemetery. Ephraim, his wife, and 3 sons all buried his property where their tombstones remain to this very day. His son Alanson was the father of Capt. Ephraim Kee the Poet" (source: "The Descendants of Steward Kee" by Kee Rodgers).
