Velma A. Dittmar, 65, of CommerceTX, died Aug. 21, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospitalof Commerce. Daughter of William Dan and Viola Pearl Barber, she was bornSept. 19, 1940, in Carmon OK. On Aug. 14, 1962, she married Rev. Roy LeeDittmar in Cherokee OK. Mrs. Dittmar worked for 32 years at Texas A&MUniversity-Commerce, retiring as administrator to the director of the library. Sheloved visiting shut-ins and other people in the community, and she served apastor wife's duties. Mrs. Dittmar began teaching Sunday school at theage of 12 and continued for 54 years. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She enjoyed canning fruits, vegetables, and preserves. She also enjoyeddoing crafts for fundraisers.



Mrs. Dittmar was a member of the Red Hatters, TOPS, and Mount Zion Ladies Association, and was a former secretary to the director of technology USE Center (NASA) in Durant OK. She was a charter member of the U.O.P.A. (University Office Personnel Association),received Clerk of the Year Award in 1996, Professional Achievement Award in1996, 25-year Membership Recognition Award from U.O.P.A. in 2002, 30-yearrecognition from Texas A&M University-Commerce in December 2004, was afirst-place winner in Division 3 from TOPS (Take Of Pounds Sensibly) in 200,5and recently graduated into KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly).



Survivors include her husband; children Rodney Dittmarand wife Reneé of Dallas TX, Gordon Dittmar of Greenville TX, and RalondaDittmar of Brea CA; grandchildre, Randy Dittmar of Lewisville TX, and Amandaand Ian Dittmar of Alvarado TX; brother Alvin Barber of Shattuck OK; sistersRozella Lingle of Stockton MO, Luella Lee of Olatha KS, Mildred Moore ofBlackwell OK, and Lillie Burnidge of Alba OK; and several nieces, nephews andother relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son RandyDittmar; and brothers Lester Barber and Clifford Barber.
