William Barry Blaine was born January 02, 1861 in Wyanet, Bureau, Illinois to John and Anna Malvina (Barry) Blaine.
He arrived in Argentine, Kansas in the summer of 1884 from Wyanet, Illinois and was residing with cousins, Edward and Sadie Engel. He was employed by the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe railroad as a clerk at the Argentine station.
He met Clarissa A Griswold while both were visiting the Engel's on their 25th wedding anniversary in Argentine, August 17, 1881. Will and Clara were united in marriage on December 29, 1886 at Clara's parent's residence in Temple, Bell, Texas. Their marriage produced three children, John Edward Blaine born October 02, 1888 in Argentine, Kansas. Thomas Penman Blaine, born August 08, 1898 in Temple, Bell, Texas and William Barry Blaine Jr. born September 03, 1902 also in Temple, Bell, Texas.
In the summer of 1888 William took his bar exam and was practicing law in Argentine while also retaining his position at the Argentine depot. On October 20, 1888, Willie accepted a new position with the Missouri Kansas & Texas Railroad first in Denton, Denton, Texas and then in Temple, Bell, Texas. While he was stationed at both locations he would occasionally write letters to be published in the Argentine newspaper about former residents of Argentine who were living in Temple and how life was in the "Queen City of Texas".
On November 01, 1890 the "Katy" opened up a new line to Sherman, Grayson, Texas and on November 10th the depot was operational with W. B. Blaine in charge of operations. In April, 1891 Will moved back to the Denton terminal to resume his duties there as the primary agent.
On April 05, 1900, William passed his bar exam for the State of Texas and completed his first jury trial on December 05, 1901. On July 21, 1904 he was appointed as the lead Attorney of Claims for the M. K. & T. Railroad in Temple, Bell, Texas.
On June 14, 1907, Will was appointed Assistant Claims Agent for the Katy, domiciled in Smithville, Bastrop, Texas. His duties included being a Traveling Agent in charge of personal injury for that line. In 1913 he was appointed Division Claims Agent for the Oklahoma City division of the Katy. Then on the 20th June 1919 he was the claims agent for the Missouri Oklahoma & Gulf Railroad a subsidiary of the Katy, stationed in Muskogee, Muskogee, Oklahoma. His duties included the claims of livestock while being transported by rail.
William Blaine was Secretary of the Argentine Coronet Band, 1886, member of the Dramatic Society of Argentine, Knights of Pythias, Argentine Lodge #90 of the Ancient Order of United Workmen (1888), Literary Society of Argentine, Republican Club of Wyandotte, Kansas and the Kansas Bar.
While in Texas he was a member of the Republican Party, Director of the YMCA in Denton, delegate for the Temple Railroad Young Men's Christian Organization, Vice President of the Temple School Board, served on the Finance Committee of the same, Trustee for the Colored schools of Temple, Second Vice President of the YMCA of Temple, member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers, which included being orator of the Labor Day picnics in Denton and Temple, Texas. He was a regular speaker for the Layman's International Missionary Movement, Chairman of the Bell County Committee on Prohibition, Texas Bar in 1904, Delegate for the 27th Judicial 3rd Supreme District (1910), Treasurer of the Temple Lodge #30 of the Fraternal Brotherhood (1910), Railway Claim Agents Association of Texas, member of the Willow Camp, Woodmen of the World (1911), Vice President of Bond Elections in Temple and in his spare time was filling in as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Temple, Texas.
William Barry Blaine died May 19, 1923 in Temple, Bell, Texas and is buried with his family at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Texas
