Funeral services for Ethel M. Rice, 86, of Wixon Valley were conducted Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Cross Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Carl Lenz officiated. Burial followed at the Cross Cemetery. Rice was born in Madison County on Feb. 13, 1917, to parents Nancy (Vernon) and Henry Crocker, and died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at her home in Wixon Valley. She was a member of the Cross Freewill Baptist Church, and was known for her wonderful charm and her love of gardening and fishing. She was preceded in death by husband David Rice. Survivors include three sons, four daughters and their spouses, Jimmy and Barbara Rice of Cross, Richard and Cheryl Rice of Bryan, Emory and Dorothy Rice of Plantersville, Nettie and John Mikeska of Bryan, Nancy and Leal Carvin of Bryan, Lisa and Johnnie Timmons of Comanche, and Nita and Henry Taylor of Dallas; sister Rowena Cox of Killeen; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. J.M. Day Funeral Home of Madisonville was in charge of arrangements.
