Caroline grad 1933 from Mishawaka HS. Until her marriage, employed at the Ball Band Rubber Plant, planning on saving significant funds to attend college, studying elem educ. Love, marriage & family came before she reached that goal. For a few years she taught at the "wartime" nursery school in Walkerton, which had been formed for the children of WW II government workers (Kingsford Ammunition Plant, etc). Later, she cared for children while their parents worked, always being the "teacher."
She was named after two gr'mo: Caroline CABANA SALSPAUGH & Huldah Susan BATES PICKING.
After marriage, she resided in rural, & in town of Walkerton, where she owned & operated The Jack & Jill SHOPPE, a children's clothing shop in the former DENAUT Bldg. By 1950, she & dtr moved to South Bend IN. where Caroline again was employed by the Ball Band plant.
