Wade Lewis Pennington, age 86, of Grapeland, Texas died March 20, 2010 at Cartmell Home for Aged in Palestine, Texas. Mr. Pennington was born near Hayes Springs Community, west of Grapeland, on April 20, 1923, the son of the late Daniel Boone Pennington and Ada Viola Ward Pennington. Mr. Pennington was part of a pioneer Houston County family whose roots here date back to the mid 1800s. His great-great-great grandmother was Hannah Boone Pennington, a sister of the legendary Daniel Boone of Kentucky. Burial in Pennington Family Cemetery west of Grapeland, on his land his ancestors settled in 1850 is under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Mr. Pennington was preceded in death by daughter, Nita Marie Pennington Bennett; grandson, Russell Brent Pennington; brothers, Sam, Jack, Dan and Hugh, and sisters, Fannie Mae Mitchell, and Etta Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Edna Arvey Cummings Pennington, whom he married on September 21, 1942; sons, Glynndon Wade Pennington, Troy Lewis Pennington and wife LaWanda, and Stanley Brent Pennington and wife Jan; daughters, Jill English, and Linda Sue Ingram and husband, Curtis; son-in-law Mike Bennett; sister, Ava June Pennington Bush; grandchildren, Aaron Wade Pennington, Lance Russell English; Matthew Robert Bennett and wife Liza, Ross Howell Pennington and wife Kim, Ryan Glynn Pennington, Ashley Marie Bennett, Clayton Daniel Pennington, Morgan Lynn Pennington, Jillian Elaine Erwin, and Clancey Jayne Pennington; great-grandchildren, Taylor Marie Pennington, Case Howell Pennington, and Colt Boone Pennington. He served in World War II, then returned to Grapeland and began his farming and ranching career which spanned over 70 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Grapeland.
