JENKINS, Morris Nathan, retired major, U.S. Marine Corps, was born October 7, 1925, in Tampa to Henry and Julia Jenkins. He had a brother Roy and sister Esther. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1943, then enlisted in the Marine Corps and was sent to Parris Island for training. He then graduated from the University of North Carolina with a B.A. in December, 1947. His 25-year career in the USMC included service during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. His assignments included work in advanced weapons, as Combat Cargo Officer of the USS Montrose during the Korean War; Services and Support Officer (Parris Island); Executive Officer and Regimental S-3 (Okinawa), and Base Provost Marshal and Base Training Facility Officer (Camp Lejeune). Decorations and awards include Certificate of Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupational Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal (Korea), and the Korean War Service Medal. Following retirement in 1968, he was employed in executive human resource positions at General Portland Cement; Hearex Corp.; Shuron Textron; Nations Bank; Memorial Hospital; and as Exec. Dir. of the Civil Service Board for Tampa. He was on the Board of the Tampa Chapter, Military Officers Association of America and never missed a meeting of the Retired Officers Association. He and his family attended Congregation Schaarai Zedek. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rhoda; children Glen, Rick, Steve, and Annette; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
