He died at the home of a sister, Mrs. Manta Fleetwood, where he had been taken two weeks before from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Chestnut, where he had lived for the past two years. Mrs. Chestnut was a cousin. He had been ill for the past four years, suffering with heart disease and complications.
At the time of his death, he was survived by four brothers, Edward, James, George, and Alonzo Wampler; sisters, Mrs. Belle O'Bryan and Mrs. Manta Fleetwood; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
