J.W. Ashley, was born in 1857, he was a retired banker, a member of the Presbyterian Church and a Mason. He resided in Easland, Texas until January 20, 1961 when he moved to Graham, Texas.
He was survived by three sons: Harold Ashley, J.R. Ashkey, and A.E. Ashley. Two daughters: Martha Ashley Roane, Mrs. Odis Key; One brother: Auther Ashley; One sister: Mrs. Ollie Andrews; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
