BARMORE, James B. - {from The Fort Smith Elevator} The past week ptomaine poisoning claimed three victims in Fort Smith, James B. Barmore, aged 41 years; Emma Barmore, aged 5 years and James B. Barmore, Jr., aged 18 months. Another child is at Belle Point Hospital under treatment. She narrowly escaped death. The mother of the children, who did not partake of the poisoned meat, thereby saved her life. Barmore lived near the city in a tent. Thursday of last week, while on his way home, he purchased some bologna sausage from a lunch stand, which he and the children ate after his return. They became seriously ill a few hours afterward and Friday were removed to Belle Point Hospital for treatment. Emma the five-year-old girl, died Saturday afternoon. The boy died Sunday morning and the father died Sunday night. The children were buried in Oak cemetery Sunday afternoon, both being laid in one grave. Mr. Barmore was laid alongside them Monday. Rev. F.F. Gibson of the First Baptist church officiated at both funerals. [Benton County Democrat - Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas - June 28, 1906]
