Lurena Jennings Craig was born at Coal Valley, Illinois, August 19, 1875, and passed away at her home in What Cheer, Iowa, June 14, 1925, aged forty-nine years, nine months and twenty-five days.
She was united in marriage to W.A. Craig, May 4, 1896. To this union seven children were born, and all are living and were present at some time during their mother's illness excepting Mrs. W.D. Benton. The children are Mrs. W.D. (Phebe) Benton, Mrs. C.F. (Lucy) Perry, of Kansas City, Mo., Alice, Elvie, Elfie, Martha and Arthur all of What Cheer.
Mrs. Craig has one brother and three sisters living: Fred Jennings of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Will Jurey of Agenda, Kansas; Mrs. W.H. Schachner of Wellman, Iowa; and Mrs. T.P. Murrey, of Detroit, Michigan. Mrs. Schachner was with her during Mrs. Craig's last illness.
Mrs. Craig was a patient sufferer during her long illness. Her faith was strong and at all times she said, "It is well with my soul."
The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church Monday morning at 10:30, by the Reverend Mr. Evans, pastor of the church. Mrs. A.U. Englemann sang those two beautiful hymns. "Asleep in Jesus" and "Thy Will be Done" In compliance with Mrs. Craig's request, the pallbearers were six women from the Methodist church, most of them members of her Sunday school class. Interment was made in Highland cemetery; What Cheer, Iowa.
