Helen Barron, 88, Pipestone, died Thursday, June 16, 2005 as a result of an automobile accident.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 19 at the Alliance Church in Tyler.
Interment was in the Ruthton Cemetery, Ruthton.
Helen Marie (Sundem) Barron was born to Nels and Mollie (Peterson) Sundem on Oct. 15, 1916 on the family farm at Hills. She attended school at Hills and attended college at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. and Nettleton College in Sioux Falls where she met Donald Barron.
Helen and Donald were married Sept. 12, 1942 in Hills on the family farm. They lived in Ruthton, Pipestone and Ivanhoe and then moved back to Ruthton in 1951 to the farm. During the early years of their marriage Helen did substitute teaching, and later worked for the State of Minnesota doing hearing testing at area schools.
Helen remained on the farm after her husband's death in 1978. In August of 2004 she moved to Storybrook Apartments in Pipestone and lived there until her death.
She was a longtime member at Opdal and Peace Lutheran Churches.
She is survived by her seven children: Dona Langswierdt, Ruthton; Susan (Bruce) Johnson, Florence; James (Karolyn) Barron, Russell; Michael (Deb) Barron, Ruthton; Thomas (Linda) Barron, Ruthton; Dennis (Kayla) Barron, Springfield and Bonnie (Doug) Peterson, Florence; 30 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother Herb (Pearl) Sundem and a sister-in-law, Kathryn Janssen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her youngest daughter Julie and a sister, Sylvia Kortemeyer.
