DEATH COMES TO T. E. MATTINGLY - CEREBRAL HEMORRHAGE FATAL TO RETIRED ST. MARY FARMER - THOMAS ERNEST MATTINGLY, 65, retired farmer who had been making his home here, died Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock in a hospital in Jefferson County, following a cerebral hemorrhage suffered on March 29. He had been ill about two months and under treatment at the hospital the past four weeks. Mr. Mattingly was a life-long resident of this county. He was born in the St. Mary section on February 12, 1881 (s/b Feb 12, 1882), a son of John and Elizabeth Mattingly, and made his home in that community until recently, having engaged in farming. He sold his farm there a few months ago and purchased the Chelf home on High School Avenue, where he resided until his last illness. He was a member of the Catholic Church. (Widow Among Survivors.) Surviving are his wife, Mrs. May Della Davis Mattingly, to whom he was united in marriage thirty-two years ago, and three children, Benford and Robert Mattingly and Miss Beatrice Mattingly, all at home. One brother, J. B. Mattingly of St. Mary, also survives. The body was taken to the Bosley Funeral Home and remained there until the hour of the funeral, which was conducted at St. Augustine's Church at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning by the Rev. Joseph D. Gettelfinger. Burial was in Charles Cemetery at St. Mary. The pallbearers were Joe Beaven, Joe Ben Russell, Joe Lee Mattingly, Charlie B. and Coleman Mattingly and James Mudd.
