Vandell Harrison Anderson was born July 3, 1930 in Teien Township, to Waldie and Dorothy (Felt) Anderson.
He graduated from Drayton High School in 1948 and begin farming in the Drayton area. He married Shirley Caswell on Nov. 26, 1950, and they began raising a family that eventually included 12 children.
Andy retired from farming in 1972 and began working on missile site construction in Langdon and Nekoma. In 1976 Andy and Shirley moved to Center, N. D. where he worked in construction on the power plants as a site superintendent for Foley Brothers and ICI. In 1986, they moved to Aurora, Col. where Andy worked in asbestos abatement and environmental cleanup until he fell ill in February.
While living in Drayton, Andy enjoyed playing fastpitch softball with the Flames and curling with his father, brothers and sons. In Center, he began gardening and enjoyed growing tulips and roses. Andy cherished his grandchildren and especially enjoyed spending time with family at the reunions held every two years.
Andy is survived by his wife, Shirley, Aurora, Colo., six sons, Kerry (Sharron) Boise, Idaho, Terry, Casper, Wyo, Wade (Nora) Aurora, Colo, Tracy (Carla) Center, N. D., Charles (Janet) Aurora, Colo., and Scott (Lisa) Casper, Wyo.; five daughters, Vicki Anderson, Bismarck, Nancy (Wayne) Bell, Park River, N.D., Susan (Wayne) Pfeifer, Couer d' Alene, Idaho; Becky (Wally) Keller, Center, N.D. and Jessica (Emerson) Judkins, Plainfield, Ill.; two brothers, Eugene (Jean) Anderson, and Ryan (Pat) Anderson; one sister, Janice (Jerry) Carkhuff; one brother-in-law, Charles Caswell, and four sisters-in-law, Teddy (Bob) Bunting, Luann (Denny) Vanderploeg, Joanne Anderson, and Deanna Anderson; a special uncle, Donald (Dorothy), Grafton; and Viola Wickman, Waupon, Wis., 29 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Marty; two grandsons, Alex and Christopher; three brothers, Curtis, Kenneth, and Sheldon.
Memorial services were held at the Gateway Christian Center, 14700 E Mississippi, Aurora, Colo. at 10 a.m., Monday, June 2 and in Drayton at Tisdale Manor at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 5. A private family burial took place at the Drayton Cemetery at noon on Thursday.
