Funeral services were held Monday, April 25 at St. Leo Catholic Church with Father Martin Schaefer officiating.
Pallbearers were Bob Bunkers, Bob, Tom and Dave Nelson, Greg, Dave and Ryan Meulebroeck, Doug Dubbelde and Matt Houselog.
Interment was in St. Leo Cemetery.
Jean Catherine Karlson was born to John and Philetta (Canfield) Kohn on Nov. 22, 1925 at Luverne. In 1932 she moved with her parents to a farm north of Pipestone where she attended country schools. She later moved with her parents to Pipestone where she continued her education at Pipestone High School.
After her graduation in 1945 she became employed in the office of Dr. Balmer and Dr. Williams.
She married Kenneth Karlson on May 23, 1950 at St. Leo Catholic Church. In 1951 they moved to the family farm in Gray Township. While living on the farm, Jean was a licensed day care provider in the early 1980s.
On Sept. 8, 2001 they moved into Pipestone to Nokomis Apartments. In July 2004 she suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the Pipestone County Medical Center. While there she suffered a stroke at which time she became a resident at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. On Tuesday, April 19 she was admitted to the Pipestone County Medical Center.
She was baptized at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Luverne and was confirmed at St. Leo Catholic Church, Pipestone; she was involved in the church circle; and was also a member of the Pipestone County Historical Society and the Pipestone Senior Center.
She is survived by her three children, Thomas (Deb) Karlson, Solon, Iowa; Robert Karlson, Hastings and Barbara (Bob) Hildebrandt, New Ulm; seven grandchildren; one brother, John Kohn, Redwood Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Clot, Concord, Calif. and Kathleen Fetzer, Redwood Valley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, who died March 25, 2005; her daughter, Mary who died in 1989; her son David who died in 2001; two sisters, Monica Steele and Lois Longstreet and four brothers, Charles, Homer, Donald and Richard Kohn.
