OBITUARY OF MRS.STEWARD HANKS
Laura Monical, daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Monical, was born Sept. 3, 1853, near Xenia, Ill.
She was married to Solomon Connelly March 15, 1882 and lived in this community until the happy union was broken by the death of the loving husband. To this union was born one daughter, now Maude Combs of Salem.
Laura was converted and joined the Southern Methodist Church, where she was a diligent through youth and early womanhood.
In May 1866 she was united in marriage to Steward Hanks of Kinmundy, where she resided until she passed away.To this happy union were born three sons: Fred of Farina, Ill.; Guy of Kinmundy; and an infant son, who preceded her to the Great Beyond.
Sister-Hanks was confined to her bed in May and in her long illness, her faith in God never wavered. During her long illness she was tenderly cared for by loved ones at her home.
In recent years she has been a member of the First Christian Church of her community. She made God's work first and her loyalty to the church of her choice has been beautiful.
"Aunt Laura" was highly repsected and always regarded as one of the good women of her community. Here she will be greatly missed.
She leaves to mourn her death a loving husband, Steward Hanks, three children, one step-son, Loyd Hanks of Kinmundy; a nephew, Charles Monical, who made his home with her since he was eight years of age; one brother, Hameline Monical, Flora, Ill.; sixteen grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
To the children and grandchildren I would say: Emulate her example, accept her Christ and after a few more years have passed, you will find mother and grandmother where death can never enter.
"Let us not grieve dear ones,
Death can not long divide
Tis just as if a rose has climbed our garden wall
And blossomed on the other side."
The funeral services were conducted at her home by Rev. Mulvaney, Monday, Dec.30. Interment was made in the Phillips Cemetery.
