He was born on October 15, 1904, to George and Isabel Horne Harston in Cowley, Wyoming. He married Anna Woodbury on November 6, 1930, in the Salt Lake Temple. At the end of World War II, Richard and Anna moved to Logan, Utah, where they purchased the Logan Cold Storage, which he operated until his retirement in 1967.He is survived by his beloved wife, Anna, of Logan, five daughters, and one son; Shirley (Merrill) Millett of Draper, Utah; Lynette (Sheldon) Heninger of Logan, Utah; Vivian (William) Allsop of West Jordan, Utah; Lorraine Harms of Danville, California; Ruth (Julian) Martinez of Tremonton, Utah; and David (Jane) Harston, of Logan, Utah. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren and a sister, Edra North, of Buena Park, California. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, R. LaDell (Luasene) Harston of Sandy, Utah, and two infant sons, Robert Clyde and Jared.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 30, 1997, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, with Bishop Joseph Nielsen of the Logan 4th Ward conducting. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Logan Cemetery.
