James Draden Moore, 70, of 47 ½ Baltimore Street, died at 1:18 a.m. today at the Hanover General Hospital where he was admitted at 5:40 p.m. yesterday.
Mr. Moore, well known throughout the community as a newspaper reporter and Masonic lodge official, was a member of the news staff of The Evening Sun for 10 years, retiring in November, 1958. He had been under a physician’s care for several years. He also served as local correspondent for the Lancaster Sunday News and many years ago was employed by the York Gazette and Daily as Hanover reporter.
During World War II he served as district supervisor of the War Rationing Board in Hanover. In the 1920s he was associated with his brother-in-law, Maurice H. Frey, in the Mau-Dra Shop, Baltimore Street. In his earlier years he was employed by the American Express Co.
Mr. Moore was born in Harrisburg Oct. 3, 1889, a son of the late James D. and Edith Neer Moore. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, York Lodge 266, Free and Accepted Masons, and Bethel Commandery 98, Knights Templar, of which he served many years as recording secretary.
He is revived by his wife, Mrs. Peryl E. Brockley Moore; three children, J. Draden Moore, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Charles F. Thomas, West Lafayette, Ind., and Mrs. Frank A. Blence, Jr., Havertown, and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Bucher funeral home, Frederick Street, Saturday at 2 p.m. with his pastor, the Rev. Howard J. McCarney, officiating. Private burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening.
