Clarence Melvin Boone, 89, of Marmaduke died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born in Marmaduke, he had worked as a custodian for Marmaduke School and was a longtime member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Piccola Boone of Paragould; a daughter, Melba Beaton of Marmaduke; two stepdaughters, Shirley Jackson and Barbara Mullins, both of Paragould; a stepson, Bill "Buddy" Adams of Marmaduke; two grandchildren; Carmen Crocker of Paragould and Kevin Beaton of Russellville; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Drope Boone,(married August 15, 1936) and his parents, James and Thresa Boone; and three brothers.

Funeral services were in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector, with Adrian Parker and Kim Bridges officiating. Burial follow in Cudd Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Pallbearers were Dwight Vangilder, Joe Vangilder, Joe Max Boone, Billy Boone, Dewayne Boone and James Lindsey.

Honorary pallbearers included Charlie Shelby, Maurice Bateman, W.O. Layer, Bill Vangilder and James Vangilder.
