Norwegian church records indicate that Jorun was born at Artun, Sauda, Rogaland, Norway, the daughter of Tjostov/Kjostov Ivarson Ekkjevikken and Torbjørg Olsdatter Haara. She married Lars Olson Selland 1 July 1832 at Røldal Church, Roldal, Hordaland, Norway. After her husband died, Jorun traveled to America, accompanied by one of her sons, Osmund Larson Flogstad. She stayed with a son, Ole Larsen Lee in South Dakota. Ole had lost his wife and Jorun helped him raise his son. Later, she moved to Norway, Illinois to stay with her daughter Torbjor Olson Sebby, wife of Andrew Sebby. Lars and Jorun had seven children:
