Landrum, SC - Hattie Alverson Swain died Thursday, Sep. 19, 1940, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Kinsey O. Huskey, near North Pacolet Baptist Church Section of Upper Spartanburg County, SC. She was the widow of John J. Swain, who died in 1910, and was the daughter of Benjamin and Sallie Hill Alverson. She was a charter member of the North Pacolet Baptist Church, where she taught a Sunday School class for many years. Survivors included the following children: Mrs. H. H. Ballenger, Mrs. W. E. Stroud, W. F. Swain, Mrs. K. O. Huskey, Mrs. A. A. Jones, Mrs. Hoyt O. Prince, and Mrs. M. M. Harris. Also surviving were his sisters: Mrs. Maggie Blackwell, MRs. W. H. Swain, Mrs. S. J. Alverson and Mrs. Evie Ballenger. She was 83 years of age at her demise and interment was in the North Pacolet Baptist Church Cemetery.
