Larry D. Alder Sr., 78, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 10th surrounded by his wife and children.

Larry was born to Orin and Viola Alder on
June 14, 1931 in Boise, Idaho.

He was raised and spent his entire life in the Boise Valley. Junior High and High School years were spent in the North End where he met his best friend for life, Bill Wennstrom. Larry graduated from Boise High with the class of 1949. He lettered in baseball, performed in school plays and danced a mean jitterbug. Larry attended BJC and was a lifetime Bronco fan. During high school, Connie Buchanan caught Larry's eye. She has been by his side for 60 years. Together, they raised five children. Larry was a committed husband and a devoted family man and always an example of honesty and integrity. He was an avid baseball fan; a passion that he shared with his father. Larry happily passed this love of the sport on to his children and grandchildren. In addition to baseball, Larry enjoyed bowling, swimming, dancing and singing. He sang with the Elk's Gleeman. Larry began his career with the Idaho State Tax Commission as an Income Tax Auditor in 1960. He worked his way up to the position of Chief Income Tax Auditor and then Tax Policy Specialist, interpreting tax law for the State Legislature. Larry made many lasting friendships and retired in 1991 after 31 years of service.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, LaVi Thomas, his father-in-law, Harry Buchanan, his mother-in-law, Edna Buchanan, his half-brother Louis Alder and half-sister, Marise Geddes.

Larry is survived by his wife, Connie, his children; Sandy and Dick Anderson, Greg and Shelly Alder, Vicki and Shawn Heazle, Larry and Marie Alder and Lorri and Mark Lee. Also by grandchildren Jessi and James Kapitanich, Kris Skeers, Shane and Kara Alder, Mark and Kaye Heazle, David Heazle, Tom Lee and Johnny Alder; great grandchildren Emily, Kaitlynn and Abby, Taylor and Baily, and Will. He also leaves behind cousins Clairmon and Gene Stoker, several sister and brother-in-laws who have been good friends throughout the years and numerous nieces and nephews who he was fond toward.

The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Randy Lee who was like a son to Dad.

Our family would like to thank Ted Lane and his crew; Melissa, Jennifer and Ben of Family Home Health and Family Home Hospice staff, Crystal, Jodi and Kevin for their compassionate care of Larry. We are also grateful to Dr. James Smith and Renee and Fran of his staff. Thank you to our extended family and many friends who sustained us through a difficult time.

A memorial gathering will be Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Summers Funeral Homes, 1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise. A reception will follow at the Owyhee Plaza.
