Maxine was born in the family residence in Rural Valley. She attended elementary and high school in Rural Valley, then went to Indiana Normal School (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania) to obtain her teaching certificate.
Maxine taught for a few years in Rural Valley, then taught in Creighton, PA for the rest of her career. Altogether, she taught elementary school for forty-six
years.
After retirement, she returned to Rural Valley and spent her time gardening and on church activities.
Maxine was always a great reader and very interested in cultural affairs. She visited Europe twice. She played the piano and organ, and for several years served as organist for the Rural Valley (now NuValley) Presbyterian church.
