According to an account written by a granddaughter (Lizzie Graves Campbell), compiled from various sources, including letters and a family Bible birth & death record, Hannah Yardy Graves was born June 21st 1836 at Thorney (near Thorney Abbey), Cambridgeshire, England. She was the daughter of William Yardy and Ann Oliver. She came to America from England in 1853. Took six weeks for the crossing and have heard her say that the saylors (sic) all wanted to get to America by the 4th of July.

Uncle William Yardy, brother of grandmother, died in 1903 (burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Joliet, Will County,
Illinois, USA).
Grandmother's sister was a Mrs. Clark who lived in the east. Billy Clark was her nephew, have heard her talk about them. She had their pictures (which have since been lost).

Arrived in America in 1853. Married to William Graves near Buffalo New York June 26, 1855. Came to Reno county Kansas February 20, 1876.
