ODESSA - Ottis Eulian Adkisson, 89, passed away on March 6, 2010, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas, and will be laid to rest next to his wife Edna Lea, in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Born on Feb. 26, 1921, in Rising Star, Texas, Ottis was one of eight children born to Louis January and Elizabeth (Straley) Adkisson. Ottis entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and proudly served his country, while being stationed in the Lucian Islands, during World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with Bronze Star during his tour. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

On Jan. 6, 1950, Ottis married Edna Lea Bale.

Ottis was a determined entrepreneur and found success in several areas of business.

During the 1960s and '70s, Ottis was self-employed working in the fields of trucking and delivery and specialized in the buying and selling of religious paintings.

In 1975, Ottis and Edna built a successful trucking business, Adkisson Hot Shot Service, during the great West Texas oil boom, which allowed him the flexibility to enjoy his life to the fullest. He loved to travel and spend time with his family, often taking his grandchildren on extensive road trips across the country. Ottis was never one to shy away from a good adventure. He has affected many people over the years with his unmatched energy and love for life.

He will truly be missed.

Ottis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elizabeth Adkisson; wife of 43 years, Edna Lea Adkisson; brothers, Herman Dois Adkisson of Abilene and Truly Adkisson of Odessa; and sister, Carloyn Abbott of Arlington.

Ottis is survived by his siblings, Juanita Murray of Kennedale, Texas, Junior Adkisson of Abilene, Geneva Holt of Abilene and Wanda English of Clyde; son, Frank Adkisson of Midland; daughter, Charlotte Guyett of Odessa; grandchildren, Kim Moya of Odessa and Bobby Crawford of Austin; five great-grandchildren, Isaac Carrasco of Arlington, Ashlea Moya, Destiny Moya, Chelsi Moya and Blake Moya of Odessa; and his beloved dogs, Tinko, Pitty and Jackie.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in the Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa, Texas, with Pastor Don Hetherington officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas.

The pallbearers will be Mark Moya, James Redwine, Michael Redwine, Jason Caldwell, Robert Guitierrez and Cecil Adkisson.

Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
