G.R. Whiteley married Thelma Griffin on 16 February 1926 in Newcastle, Texas.

G.R. Whiteley, 62, tax assessor-collector of the Newcastle ISD, prominent businessman and stockman, was born and raised at Fort Belknap, Texas. He was director of the Farmers National Bank in Newcastle and proprietor of the Newcastle Insurance Agency. Mr. Whiteley was a veteran of World War I. He was director of Fort Belknap Historical Society since its organization in 1938. Mr. Whiteley married Miss Thelma Griffin. George R. Whiteley was an active member of the group that planned for the restoration of old Fort Belknap and worked to make that restoration possible. He energetically supported every effort to improve and beautify old Fort Belknap as a monument to the courage and sacrifices of the pioneer who came into this section around the Fort. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survived by his wife; one brother - Marshall Whiteley.
