Boykin Last Rites Are Conducted Here On Sunday

Active Community And Church Worker Dies After Brief Illness

William Jackson Boykin died Sunday morning in a local hospital, following a short illness. Mr Boykin's death came as a shock to his wide list of acquaintances over the county, many of whom had not heard of his illness.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Methodist Church, of which he had been a member since he was twenty-eight years of age, with Rev W B Hicks in charge. Mr Boykin had lived in this county for eighteen years and had many friends over the entire section.

He was known for his high ideals and friendship, as well as his progress and diligence in his work. He had taken active part in both community and church affairs.

He suffered a cerebral hemorrage Wednesday and was rushed to a local hospital. He died at 3:45 o'clock Sunday morning. William Jackson Boykin was born January 27, 1878 in Leon County, Texas, the son of Mr and Mrs W J Boykin, Sr. At the time of his death he was sixty years and three days of age. He was married to Miss Leta Adkins on February 2, 1898 at Pamelia, Texas.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs Lela Boykin, two sons and two daughters, Mrs Pearl Polk of Arlington, Mrs Myrtle Pettyjohn of Pampa, Wesley Boykin and Chesley Boykin, both of Cee Vee; his father, W J Boykin of Mashier, Texas, two brothers and two sisters; Lee Boykin of Evant, Oliver Boykin of Adamsville, Mrs Lovett Preston of Lampasas and Mrs Mattie Howard of Adamsville. Seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild also survives.

Active pallbearers were Paul Nulisch, Kermit Boykin, McAdoo Polk, Dick Sweat, Bura Handley and Logan Cummings. Honorary pallbearers were D H Handley, Ed Estes, Allen Peters, W A Bennett, J A Mahan, J W Breedlove and L W Gribble. Flower bearers were Faye Handley, Mary Peters, Lucille Bennett and Mrs Selba Rainey.

Hymns included "Sweet Bye and By," and "Nearer, My God to Thee." by the choir and "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be," a duet by Mrs S K Parsons and Mrs Clifford Quaid.

Interment was in the Wellington Cemetery (South Fairview) with the Wellington Funeral Home in charge.
