The Wellington Leader October 29, 1942

Mrs. W. J. Boykin, a resident of Wellington for the last 24 years, died Friday evening, October 23, at 7:45 o'clock. She had been in ill health for more than a year and critically ill for several weeks.

Mrs. Boykin lived approximately two miles north of Wellington, and since the death of her husband several years ago she had taken over the active management of her farm.

Mrs. Boykin was a native Texas, having been born September 10, 1880 in Coryell County. At the time of her death she was 62 years, one month and 13 days of age. Before her marriage she was Lela Gertrude Adkins, the daughter of G. B. and Minerva King Adkins.

She was married to W. J. Boykin February 28, 1898.

At the age of 24 years, Mrs. Boykin became a member of the Methodist Church, and had been an active and devout member since that time. Even after she became ill, she continued to take active part in church work until only a short time before her death.

Mrs. Boykin devoted most of her time to her home and her family, but after these, she placed next the interest and welfare of her neighbors and friends. She had a wide circle of acquaintances and many friends throughout this area.

Mrs. Boykin is survived by four children, Mrs. Pearl Polk, of Arlington, Mrs. Maryland Pettyjohn of Kansas City, Missouri, Wesley Boykin of Childress and Chesley Boykin of Wellington.
