Mrs. Mattie Jane Armstrong, 83, a resident of the county 60 years, died in Collingsworth General Hospital Friday, July 14, following a short illness. She had been a patient at Thomas Nursing Home for seven years.
Born at Coalgate, OK June 16, 1899, she was the former Mattie Jane Clevenger, daughter of L.C. and Lucy Withers Clevenger. She grew up in that area and was married to Robert A. Armstrong on March 11, 1906, at Coalgate.
After coming here in 1912, Mrs. Armstrong lived in the Quail community a number of years before moving into Wellington.
She had been a member of the Church of Christ many years.
Surviving Mrs. Armstrong are a daughter, Mrs. J.B. Stratton of Midwest City, OK; a brother, Jeff Clevenger of Tulia; a sister, Mrs. Annie Roten of Fort worth and two grandchildren.
Mr. Armstrong preceded her in death July 9, 1963.
