The Wellington Leader March 26, 1970

John C. Alexander, who came to Collingsworth county before it was organized into a county, died at his home, in Amarillo, Sunday, March 22. He was 87. Mr. Alexander had lived in Amarillo about eight years.

A member of pioneer Texas families, he was born at Welmar, September 28, 1882. His Father O. W. Alexander, was born in Columbus in 1853, only a few years after Texas became a state. His mother, a native of Mississippi, came to Texas as a child.

The family came to Collingsworth County in 1889 and filed on land a mile north of Welling. John C. Alexander farmed throughout his active life.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Alexander is survived by eight nieces and nephews.
