Agnes grew up two miles outside of Weston, NE with three brothers and five sisters. While she worked doing chores on the farm, she was the first in her family to graduate from high school. She walked 4.5 miles round trip each day to school and graduated as Salutatorian from Weston High School in 1932. She met Emil Benes at a dance in Wahoo and soon after, was offered a job as a nanny in Lincoln, NE. Agnes told him she did not know how he would find transportation to visit her in Lincoln. He did and they were married on Jan. 9, 1934 at St. John Nepomucene Church in Weston in a double wedding with her sister Marie and George Skokan. They moved to Touhy, NE where Emil and Agnes owned the grocery store with Emil's sister and brother in law Rose and Ernie Kriz for ten years. When Emil returned in 1945 from WWII, they moved to Raymond, NE where they lived for 33 years. While living there, Agnes belonged to the Raymond Extension Club; St. Joseph Catholic Church in Agnew and the Altar Society; the Nebraska Mail Carriers Women's Auxiliary where she served as President for a few terms; the Lancaster County Health Board; and the Raymond High School Parent-Teacher Association. She also worked at Miller and Paine in the audit department for several years once there daughter Barbara was older. They moved to Wahoo in 1979 where Agnes was a parishioner at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society.
Agens is preceded in death by husband Emil M. Benes, sisters Helen Tejral, Julia Kliment, Marie Skokan and Betty Benes, brothers Adolph, Anton and Ted Komenda. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (David) Daughton, granddaughter Joan (Carrie) Knapp-Daughton, great granddaughter Emilee Knapp-Daughton, all Omaha, sister Dorothy (Howard) Novotny, Valparaiso, NE, sisters in law Glee Komenda, Brainard, NE, Rose Komenda, Wahoo, many nieces and nephews.
