She was predeceased by her husband, Y.T. Abernathy, Jr.; parents, Alva Merle and Annie Mae Breed; brothers, Alva M. Breed, Jr. and Thomas Woodson Breed. She is survived by her sons, Y.T. Abernathy, III, Duluth, GA and Michael Alan Abernathy (Patti), Canton, GA; grandchildren, Lydia Abernathy Mondavi (Rob), Napa, CA, Michael Patrick Abernathy, Napa, CA, and Richard Young Abernathy, Canton; brother, Gerald Breed (Claudia) of Marietta, GA; sisters, Mary Jane Breed Burchette, Loganville, GA, Alice Breed Bates, Alton, IL, Jenny Breed Smith, Opelika, AL; brothers-in-law, Joe Tarver Abernathy, Albany, GA, William Broome, Oakwood, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church where she taught Special Needs Children and Sunday School and was a member of the Chancel Choir.
In her early years, she worked as a bookkeeper, piano teacher, and kindergarten teacher, but ultimately she was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home, 3147 Marietta Hwy., Canton, GA with Mr. John Condra officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment Monday, March 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. South Canton Funeral Home & Chapel (770) 479-3377.
