Oliver Denison Smith Gallup was born 28 Nov 1806 in Hartland, Windsor Co., VT, the son of John Stark Gallup and Eunice Smith. Two generations of the Gallup family left Sheldon, VT in the 1830's. In Cincinnati John S. Gallup and a daughter died of Cholera. The rest of the family went on to Cass and St. Joseph Counties, MI. Oliver's mother, Eunice Smith Gallup, is buried in the Niles, MI cemetery. Oliver's brothers were John Stark Gallup, Jr. and Hammond Daniel Gallup who are also buried in Niles. Oliver DS Gallup married Mary F. House in Montgomery, VT. After Oliver's death, she and her children went west to Iowa County, Iowa where she is buried in the Ohio Cemetery near Ladora, Iowa Co., Iowa.
