ADDISON - Richard F. "Tarz" Merchant, 68, died March 10, 2010, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Nov. 5, 1941, in Bangor, the son of Franklin and Pauline (Seavey) Merchant. Tarz was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the boat races in the summer time. He was a member of Jonesport Pentecostal Church and Nights of Pithiest of Gouldsboro. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He was known by many nicknames including, "Bear Hunter," "Tarzan," "Bully" and "Red Eye Green Eye". He also enjoyed going to Jonesport and having coffee with the "boys".
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Anne Merchant of Addison; four children and their spouses, Timothy, Ricky, Shari and Kerri; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers, one sister, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and their spouses.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Charles.
Interment will be at Mailey Hill Cemetery, Columbia. (Bangor Daily News 3/12/2010)
