Emily was one of seven children born to John Henry Temm and Hattie Morgan Temm, two of whom died in childbirth. She worked in a laundromat, and met her future husband Frank Clarke at Higgins Beach in 1922. They bought property on Payne Road Scarborough in 1936, and ran a farm that was still in operation through the end of the century. Their property was in the Clarke family up until 2016. They had 12 children, two of whom died very young. Emily suffered a fall down the stairs in 1980, and remained wheelchair-bound the rest of her life. She lived to 96, spending the last year of her life in a nursing home, eventually succumbing to dementia. She was otherwise in relatively perfect health throughout her entire life.
