Maurice Henry Humphrey, 72, of Springfield died Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield. He was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Meta to Manley and Charity Burns Humphrey. He lived in Dixon until moving to Springfield. He was a graduate of Dixon High School and Drury College, where he earned a degree in economics.

Mr. Humphrey served in the 477th Quartermaster Regiment for three years, with an 18-month tour of duty in Alaska during World War II. He received the American Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He retired from the Frisco Railroad in 1981 after 32 years service in the Civil Engineering Department. After retirement he was involved in real estate and construction. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, the M & M Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Men, the Frisco Retired Club and VFW Post 963.

Mr. Humphrey was married to Ruth Condra for 48 years and she survives at the home. Also surviving are a son, Larry Maurice Humphrey of Westfield, Mass.; a daughter, Linda Hussey of Overland Park, Kan.; a brother, Bobby Lee Humphrey of Springfield; a sister, Dolores Smoot of Dixon; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Jan. 16, with the Rev. Wilber C. Denney officiating. Burial was in the Iberia Cemetery under the direction of Groman-Scharpf-Brentwood Funeral Home.
