Ms Fusz was vacationing for the Summer at Able St Louis Twin Lakes Lodge and was returning to the Lodge Monday afternoon when her car became stuck in sand. Mr Robert A. Kinney, a 30 year old Phelps musician from Wausau, stopped to render assistance, towed her car to the side of the road, and was unfastening the tow chains between the cars when Samuel Lapiccolo, a Land o'Lakes barber from Detroit, rounded the curve and struck the Fusz car, which careened into Ms Fusz standing nearby and Mr. Kinney between the cars, who also died of injuries. Mr Loppiccolo was arrested and held for trial in Eagle River on a charge of Manslaughter. Trial was set for October 27, but Mr Loppiccolo was found dead, hanging from his cell door on October 22, 1936.
