Maggie Valley - Alva Jo Moody Carver, 85, of 341 Soco Road, died on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at her residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clifton and Isabelle Mehaffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Carver, who died in 1987. She was a graduate of Western Carolina Teachers College and was a retired teacher and librarian of the Haywood County Schools System. Mrs. Carver was a member of Waynesville Christian Fellowship Church and was active in their ministries. She was also very active in her community until her decline in health.

She is survived by one son, Sammy Carver and his wife, Susan, of Waynesville; a daughter, Saralyn Price and her husband, Mike, of Maggie Valley; a sister, Wanda Sutton of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Lisa Decker and husband, Caleb, Jenny Clark and husband, Nathan, and Russell Wade, all of Waynesville, and Alice Camden Morrison and husband, Eric, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren, Colin and Sam Decker, Atticus and Ali Camden Morrison, and Kate Clark. The family would like to thank her caregiver, Linda Wood.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at Waynesville Christian Fellowship Church, with Clayton Davis, Dr. Gerald Styles, and Fred Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Waynesville Christian Fellowship Church, 1115 Dellwood Road, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
